Yellow Paper Kite

Yellow Paper Kite

The designs for this range of leggings came from a visit to Malahide Castle, and the butterfly greenhouse which houses over 20 species of tropical butterflies.

The Rice Paper Butterfly also known as Paper Kite or Tree Nymph, is found in Malaysia, Taiwan and the Philippines. Its wings are striking, large, and translucent with just a hint of yellow, patterned with contrasting black streaks and spots. They are graceful and slow fliers, as their markings warn off predators. This butterfly was so large and delicate that I wanted to express these qualities while echoing the powerful black lines of their wings on a pair of leggings that are made to be seen.

These leggings have a raised waistband with a soft, wide, clear elastic for extra comfort, a hidden pocket in the waistband seam, are sewn with a flat seam cover stitch, and have a triangle-shaped gusset crotch for extra strength and comfort.

The fabric is 82% polyester and 18% spandex, is 38-40 UPF, and the material has a four-way stretch, so the fabric stretches and recovers on the cross and lengthwise grains. Precision-cut and hand-sewn after printing

Please be aware that contact with rough surfaces and velcro fasteners should be avoided since they could pull out the white fibres in the fabric and could damage the leggings’ appearance.
