The designs for this range of leggings came from a visit to Malahide Castle, and the butterfly greenhouse which houses over 20 species of tropical butterflies.
The Blue Morpho Butterfly is found throughout the forests of South and Central America, its open wings show off a stunning iridescent blue and when closed it disappears into its surroundings. It is drawn to the sunlight and is said to grant wishes, and its light reflecting abilities has led to advances in technology, from iridescent strips on banknotes to screen colour displays! It also inspired these leggings which I designed while imagining the butterfly sitting in the sunlight by a stream on the floor of the Amazon rainforest.
These leggings have a raised waistband with a soft, wide, clear elastic for extra comfort, a hidden pocket in the waistband seam, are sewn with a flat seam cover stitch, and have a triangle-shaped gusset crotch for extra strength and comfort.
The fabric is 82% polyester and 18% spandex, is 38-40 UPF, and the material has a four-way stretch, so the fabric stretches and recovers on the cross and lengthwise grains.
Please be aware that contact with rough surfaces and velcro fasteners should be avoided since they could pull out the white fibres in the fabric and could damage the leggings’ appearance. Precision-cut and hand-sewn after printing
